How Do You Know Which One Is Actually Going to Get Your Book Where It Needs to Go?

I have been trying to get my head around this for the past few weeks and the more I look into it the more I realise how little attention I gave to distribution when I was planning my publishing journey. I assumed that once the book was published it would just be available everywhere and readers would be able to find it but that is not really how it works and I learned that the hard way after my book went live with very limited visibility across the platforms I actually wanted it on. A writer in my local group mentioned that book distribution companies vary enormously in terms of what they actually cover and how much of the setup they handle on your behalf versus leaving you to figure out the platform specific requirements yourself.
